About

Serve the Block™ was founded by Amanda Jahnke and Darryl Jackson, two Uber drivers from Kansas City, who saw a growing need in their own neighborhoods. After seeing kids waiting for the bus without shoes, seniors with no way to buy groceries, and people sleeping on sidewalks in the middle of the day, they knew something had to change.

Through extensive research, we discovered that one of the largest groups affected by homelessness in Kansas City are those who earn too much to qualify for government assistance but too little to cover everyday expenses. These are hardworking people who simply need a hand up, not a handout.

Our mission is simple — to meet people where they are. Instead of waiting for individuals to find help, we bring food, clothing, and community resources directly to them in a welcoming, stigma-free way. Every block we serve is a step toward restoring dignity, hope, and connection in Kansas City.
